Benzyl Benzoate is one of the older medicines that is used to treat scabies.

Scabies is a skin infection caused by the mite sarcoptes scabiei. It is characterised by severe itching (particularly at night), red spots, and may lead to a secondary infection.

Benzyl Benzoate has been formulated to be lethal to the mite and so is useful in the treatment of scabies.

HORSES & PONIES

Benzyl Benzoate can also be used for Horses & Ponies to prevent and treat sweet itch which is caused by sensitivity towards midge bites causing itching and hair loss. Benzyl Benzoate should soothe the bites and stings and prevent the horse from rubbing its skin against posts and other damaging objects.

This formula is easy and pleasant to use and should be applied in spring as a preventative measure, before the symptoms become apparent.

Directions on how to use Benzyl Benzoate 25% Application:

Apply Benzyl Benzoate over the whole body, paying particular attention to the webs of the fingers and toes and brushing the lotion under the ends of the nails. You can use an old paintbrush, shaving brush or cotton wool to apply it. Without having a bath or shower, repeat the following day and wash off 24 hours after the second application.

Your doctor may recommend a third application. All members of the affected household and close contacts (even if they show no signs of infestation) should be treated at the same time. However, Benzyl Benzoate should not be used on children. Alternative treatments are available for children, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice. Do not wash your hands after each application. When you do wash your hands during the treatment period eg after going to the toilet, reapply Benzyl Benzoate to the hands.

Benzyl Benzoate is for external use only. If you think that someone has swallowed Benzyl Benzoate contact your doctor or go to the accident and emergency department of your local hospital at once. Always take the container with you, if possible, even if it is empty.

Benzyl Benzoate should be applied to all affected areas with fingers or a soft cloth as soon as any problems occur and for the remainder of the season. The first application of 75ml should be made twice a day, reducing to once a day and then to 3-4 times a week as irritation lessens.

All affected areas should be kept clean by shampooing and rinsing well at least once a week.

After shampooing or exercise re-apply to ensure adequate protection. Horses liable to seasonal problems should recieve an application in early spring before these occur.

Protective vinyl or rubber gloves should be worn. Avoid contact with eyes - if contact should occur rinse immediately with plenty of water.

HARMFUL if Swallowed, DO NOT induce vomiting, seek urgent medical attention showing product lable.

Dispose of empty packaging and any remaining product as household waste, do not recycle used containers.
